Obama Apologizes to Cop About “Stupid” Arrest Comment:-
President Barack Obama stepped to the podium in the White House Briefing Room in the White House today to announce that he had talked to Sergeant James Crowley, the Cambridge, Massachusetts police officer who is at the center of a controversy over his arrest of noted Harvard African-American scholar, and friend of the President, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Eating his hat, Obama acknowledged that his comments had gone over the line and stirred up a hornet’s nest this week.
During Wednesday’s prime-time press conference, Obama said that Sgt. Crowley and the Cambridge Police had “acted stupidly” when they arrested his friend Professor Gates. Obama insinuated in his comments Wednesday night that the officer’s motivations were racial in nature. Since Wednesday, it has to the light that, in fact, Officer Crowley is one of the Cambridge PD’s experts on racial profiling and teaches a course on the issue to recruits. The local police union has also gotten behind the Sergeant, supporting his actions as by-the-book, and not driven by racism or any other motive.
Today, Obama said that he could have calculated his words “differently” during his statement about the incident, however he continues to believe that both Crowley and Gates over-reacted. He also apparently invited the officer to the White House for a beer with the Professor. We’ll see if that ever actually happens.
“Because this has been ratcheting up and I obviously helped to contribute ratcheting it up, I wanted to make clear in my choice of words I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sgt. Crowley specifically,” Obama said.
The real motivation behind Obama’s impromptu phone call and presser today? Healthcare. Obama even admitted as much today saying that he thought his comments had inflamed the incident in Cambridge and taken away the focus he wanted the press to have this week – urging Congress to pass his healthcare plan.
Now, everyone needs to stop talking about this incident and get back to work. The President has one-sixth of our nation’s economy to take over, socialize and destroy. No more delays or “distractions“.
